Yes golf is played all year round in Japan and this weekend at the 3 Tours Championship in Chiba, even a little rain could not stop the JLPGA girls from defeating the men (JPGA) and Seniors (JGTO) with a point total of 37.5 points. The JPGA team lead by Shingo Katayama came in second with 30.5 points and the JGTO team finished at 28.5 points. Ai Miyazato led the girls with 3rd and final round scores of -4 and -2, avenging their 3rd place finish last year and taking the Championship for the first time. I thought it was an awesome win for the girls especially considering the JPGA team was pretty much a star studded line up.
Teams
JLPGA: Ai Miyazato, Sakura Yokomine, Akane Iijima, Yun-Jye Wei, Hyun-Ju Shin
JPGA: Shingo Katayama, Toru Taniguchi, Taichi Teshima, Tomohiro Kondo, Kenji Fukabori
JGTO: Kiyoshi Murota, Tommy Nakajima, Katsunari Takahashi, Jet Ozaki, Isao Aoki
In other news, Japan was brutal at the World Cup in Barbados. Tanihara and Hiratsuka would have been better off playing in the 3 Tours in Chiba... After opening in contention with a round of 67, they shot three straight rounds of 74 to finish second last out of 23 teams. Congrats to Germany who defeated Scotland in a sudden death playoff to win.
