Today was the first day of the annual Japan Golf Fair at Tokyo Big Sight in Odaiba. We headed out early and got to Odaiba just before 10am and met up with Chris and Jacque. The Japan Golf Fair has been know as the premier showcase of new Japanese Golf Technology and equipment and it did not fail to disappoint this year at all! We stayed for around 7 hours taking over 1500+ photos between us, checking out all the known and unknown brands. As always there were amazing booths with special props going out to Mizuno and ONOFF who's booths were like stylish works of art. I was sad not to see PRGR there but the opted to not spend the big yen it cost to have a booth at the show and instead spend that money promoting their new PRGR Web Magazine site as a tool to showcase their products. Epon was not at the show as well but this was already expected as Endo's president has always stressed that Epon is their pet project and they prefer to keep a low profile with it so as to not step on the toes of any of their big brand clients by competing directly with them.
Some of the highlights included an appearance by teen sensation Ryo Ishikawa at the Yonex booth. Yonex which had signed Ishikawa a few weeks prior to the show to be the face of their brand has obviously banked everything on this rising star, his image was plastered everywhere on posters, banners, catalogs... and the public appearance seemed to work as Yonex had one of the biggest crowds which made the news. There were quite a few nice show girls representing all the brands, giving out brochures and samples and welcoming visitors to each booth. At Tourstage we got free 2008 V10 balls, a ball marker over at Maruman, a neck strap for holding a cellphone over at Diamana and florescent golf balls over at Kasco. All in all a very fun day.
