GDO has posted up a few new video previews of some of Japan Golf Market's most popular new forged irons. They've got videos up for the Taylormade Japan's new 2008 r7 TP Forged and XR Forged as well as Tourstage's 2008 X-Blade and Srixon's ZR-700. Just to give a brief recap of Kanetani pro's comments:
Taylormade r7 TP Forged: Sharp milling on a compact head. Nice sound on impact. A very workable face. Strong trajectory with reasonably large sweet area. A good choice for the expert golfer.
Taylormade XR Forged: Wide score lines cover much of the face. Straight long shots. Wide sweetspot. The face material is different on the long and mid irons than the short irons. Long and mid irons give the soft forged feel while the short irons have more bite and spin. Design gives confidence at address. Easy almost automatic iron to hit.
Tourstage 2007 X-Blade: Soft feel, the iron hits the ball nice and high. Magnesium forged in the sole helps the soft feel by absorbing shock. High MOI keeps the ball straight. Top line and leading edge are well thought out and verstile in numerous lies. For the expert golfer but perhaps a bit more forgiving than previous generation.
Srixon ZR-700: Face is longer than previous ZR-600 model. Very forgiving sole. Toe and heel weight distribution create high MOI. Toe and heel relief allows this iron to work from any lie. Shots a bit on the high side but very straight. Forgiving enough for the average golfer but still satisfying for lower handicap players.
