In case readers have not noticed, I am about a month behind in posting on the blog. Was just so busy that I am now back dating my posts from memory! Today (as in March 6th) we headed to Akihabara Electric Town. It's pretty much an annual trip for me to check out Akihabara when I come back to Japan. As some of you may know I used to be a competetive computer overclocker (refer to earliest posts of this blog) so it's a habit to check out the latest and greatest in Akihabara. I also decided this time around to visit AKB48 Theater since I like them so much and also visit @Home Maid Cafe.
There's been quite a bit of change in Akihabara the last few years. Especially after that big fire at Sofmap quite a few years ago. Behind the station now there is the all new Yodobashi Akiba and UDX Plaza. One thing that hasn't changed is the crowds. Otakus and lots of gaijins still line the streets filled with many familar and unfamilar electronic shops and anime hangouts.
As the map on the AKB48 site says as well as instuctions I looked up on the very nice site stage48.net, the AKB48 Theater is on the 8th floor of the discount shop Don Quixote building. It's actually right on the main street running parallel to the street that faces the UDX parking lot. There is a big vertical sign saying Don Quixote in katakana and at the bottom an arrow pointing "IN" (first pic below).
I think I was the only one visiting the Theater with a wife, mine happens to be a big fan of Acchan. I snapped a few pics of the theater which had no performance going today. It was mostly AKB fans hanging out, trading photos and talking about AKB. I visited the cafe and the manager there was nice enough to hand me two of March's BLT mags with special edition AKB48 covers. When I move back to Japan this summer it'll be line up time to catch a show!.
